The Story
A UNESCO World Heritage convict-era estate at Longford, founded 1817 by Thomas Archer — brother of William Archer, who founded neighbouring Brickendon. The Archer family lived here for six generations until 1994; since then the Woolmers Foundation has operated the estate. Six heritage cottages from the 1840s sit within the eighteen original buildings — Coachman's, Gardener's, plus the four Free Settlers Cottages named for the trades that built the place: Blacksmiths, Coopers, Shepherds, Orchardists. National Rose Garden, 90-minute buggy tour, Convict Farm Walk to Brickendon.
