Sassafras sits among the tall mountain ash and fern gullies of the ranges, with the village's tea rooms, galleries and surrounding forest walks close by. The scale is deliberately small, owner-run with only a handful of cottages, so it reads as a quiet couples' retreat rather than group accommodation. It suits a weekend within easy reach of the city but firmly in the hills, with the cool-climate gardens of the Dandenongs a short drive in any direction.
